São Paulo, September 9, 2016 - The model of sustainable management of Braskem, the largest manufacturer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, was recognized for the fifth consecutive year by the Dow Jones Sustainability Emerging Markets Index (DJSI). The index of emerging countries of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) identifies companies that stand out for incorporating sustainability effectively into their business strategies. Currently, of the 95 selected companies, only 13 are Brazilian.

"Our growth plan is structured on the pillars of sustainability that guide all our activities. Over the years, we have evolved in the adoption of processes and practices and in launching products with less environmental impact while promoting benefits to our stakeholders. The continued inclusion in this index indicates that we are on the right track, in line the latest innovations in the international market," said Marcelo Arantes, Vice President of People, Communication, Marketing and Sustainable Development of Braskem.

Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Global Sustainability Index was the first to follow the stocks, at the Stock Exchange, of companies that have sustainability practices. In 2012, a specific indicator was launched for emerging markets such as Brazil, China, Russia, India, Mexico, South Africa, and Turkey. In a universe of the 800 largest companies in 23 countries, the list identifies those that stand out - about 10% - and serves as a reference for investors.

Braskem's commitment to good practices is also reinforced and recognized by other indicators. At BM&FBovespa, the Company has been part of the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) since its inception in 2005 and has been listed on Level 1 of Corporate Governance. In the Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2), launched in 2010, it is part of the theoretical portfolio of 30 companies that have agreed to adopt transparent practices regarding their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Furthermore, it has been included in the rankings of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), one of the most renowned sustainability indicators in the world, being voted the best Brazilian company in carbon management in 2015.
