Braskem joins the "Forum on Companies and LGBT Rights"
The petrochemical company is the first major company with a Brazilian capital stock to commit officially to promoting the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people
São Paulo, September 9, 2016 - Braskem, the largest manufacturer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, has become the first major company with a Brazilian capital stock to sign the initiative "Forum on Companies and LGBT Rights Forum," an organization that brings together leading companies for the 10 commitments to the respect and promotion of human rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transvestites and transsexuals.
Created in 2013, the Forum represents a public pact of work to strengthen and create actions related to the promotion of LGBT rights. "By adhering to these principles, Braskem reaffirms its commitment to promoting an inclusive business environment and reinforces its belief that we are all potential agents of social transformation," said Fernando Musa, President of Braskem.
Braskem understands the appreciation and respect for diversity as a crucial subject and confirms its responsibility to act proactively on the issue. "By fostering relationships that are collaborative and free from discrimination, we create a working environment where people can be themselves, thus contributing to their engagement and satisfaction," said Marcelo Arantes, Vice President for People, Communication, Marketing and Sustainable Development of Braskem.
Since 2015, as part of its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in their business, the Company initiated the Women at Braskem Program, the first front of the Diversity Program, which focuses on promoting of gender equality and the women's empowerment.
The Forum on Companies and LGBT Rights prepared 10 Commitments to guide the practices of each company on the issue, as well as the work of the initiative:
- The commitment of presidents and executives to respecting and promoting LGBT rights;
- To promote equal opportunities and fair treatment for LGBT people;
- To promote a respectful, safe and healthy environment for LGBT people;
- To raise awareness and promote education on the respect for LGBT rights;
- To encourage and support the creation of LGBT affinity groups;
- To promote the respect for LGBT rights in communication and marketing;
- To promote the respect for LGBT rights in the design of products, services and customer service;
- To promote professional development actions for people in the LGBT segment;
- To promote economic and social development of LGBT people in the value chain;
- To promote and support actions in favor of LGBT rights in the community.
