One hundred boats were made of renewable source polyethylene
The event Ecomotion, in partnership with Braskem, will replace common kayak with new ones made of plastic derived from renewable source: sugar cane ethanol. The petrochemical industry supplied 5 tons of resin for the production of 100 kayaks of Green Plastic, to be used over the five days of the event, from May 11 to 20, on Chapada dos Veadeiros, Goiás. The boats will bear Braskem's brand and the seal "I'm greenTM", which identifies the products made of this technology.
Known as Green Plastic, this resin is made by Braskem (www.braskem.com.br), the world's top producer of biopolymers, and it is known worldwide by joining the benefits and properties of the traditional plastic and sustainability. Its most relevant differential is the ability to contribute for the reduction of the greenhouse effect: up to 2.5 tons of carbon gas (CO2) are taken out of the atmosphere for each tone produced.
Braskem produces green plastic in commercial scale since September 2010, when it opened in Triunfo (RS) the world's largest industry unit of ethane derived from ethanol, enabling the production of 200,000 tons of green polyethylene per year.
