The petrochemical company will hold another two such auctions later this year
Braskem, the leading thermoplastic resin producer in the Americas and the world's largest producer of biopolymers, raised R$208,900 from the Social Auction that took place in January, ending on the 20th. The Company will hold a further two such auctions in 2012, and the proceeds will go towards social and environmental projects involving local communities.
The auction comprised 26 lots of equipment from Braskem's plants in the Greater ABC region of São Paulo and in Duque de Caxias, in Rio de Janeiro. This equipment was used in control and analysis laboratories and in product development.
The proceeds from this first auction will be used to develop the Mauá Sorting and Recycling Center, in São Paulo state, which is being built with investments of R$1.2 million financed by the BNDES. Braskem's goal is to foster the social inclusion of recyclable material collectors and promote the region's social and environmental development.
"We were greatly surprised by the number of participants in the first social auction and we raised three times more than expected. The proceeds from this and other social auctions will be used exclusively to benefit and develop the community," said Lucelio de Morais, Braskem's Institutional Relations Manager for the Southeast Region.
