Most people probably have no idea of the presence of the world-class Brazilian petrochemical company, Braskem, in their lives. But a quick look around their house, in their car or at their office is sufficient to find objects made of plastic, many of which are made of resin produced by Braskem, which are fundamental for daily comfort and the practicality of modern life. Articles such as hair or toothbrushes, baby bottles, domestic utensils, backpacks, packaging, automotive components, computer parts, shopping bags, wires, cables, window frames, and more, are made of thermoplastic resins like
polyethylene,
polypropylene and
PVC, which are the focus of the company’s business. Market leadership, competitiveness and technological autonomy aligned with the commitment to promote sustainable development are the bases for Braskem’s strategy.
The company has the largest and most modern research complex in the sector in Latin America, the
Innovation and Technology Center of Braskem. The CTI has units in Triunfo, in Rio Grande do Sul, Camaçari, Bahia, and São Paulo, where products, processes, applications and new markets are developed in partnership with clients, plastic transformers that comprise the third generation. The company thus aggregates value and competitiveness to the entire
petrochemical and plastic production chain.
With shares listed on the São Paulo, New York and Madrid Stock Exchanges, Braskem is committed to the principles of good corporate governance, founded on transparency in its relations with the capitals market.
Braskem’s challenge to grow, innovate and increasingly improve its performance is based on
people management focused on the potential for growth of its more than 4000 associates. It is a model that seeks to attract, motivate and retain the best talents in the market by offering professional qualification and valorization.
Braskem is the leader in the Latin American market for thermoplastic resins since it was founded in August 2002, when Odebrecht and Mariani integrated their petrochemical assets with Copene Petroquímica do Nordeste S.A., the former center for petrochemical raw materials in Camaçari, Bahia, which they had controlled since 2001.
The two groups joined their petrochemical companies creating Braskem, the first integrated petrochemical company in the country, combining first and second generation operations of the plastic production chain into a single company.
The first generation is responsible for the business cycle linked to the production of basic raw materials such as ethylene, propylene and chlorine, fundamental for the second generation, which handles thermoplastic resins. Since it is integrated in the production chain, Braskem has great competitive advantages, such as production scales and operational efficiency.
