Engaged in ensuring the perennity of its businesses, Braskem associates its growth to the quality of life in the communities around it and to the rational use of natural resources. Based on this principle, the company shapes its strategy to achieve increasingly better levels of competitiveness and excellence.
Its commitment to Sustainable Development is among the core axes of this strategy. It aims at promoting balanced economic, social and environmental growth.
Braskem is one of the 34 Brazilian companies in the São Paulo Stock Exchange’s Corporate Sustainability Index, a differentiated portfolio created in 2005 with shares of companies that stand out due to their actions on behalf of sustainable development and social responsibility.
The company’s industrial processes are in constant evolution with a focus on maximizing effectiveness allied with caring for its associates, the environment and responsibility for the community.
The Braskem + and Sempre Excelência em SSMA programs are examples adopted by the company to stimulate and carry out the cultural changes needed to consolidate its strategies and promote the Culture of Excellence.
Created in 2004, the Braskem+ Program is a production system for managing physical and human assets that combines a series of integrated methodologies with the objective of improving the quality, productivity and sustainability of the processes.
The Sempre Excelência em SSMA Program is based on the 16 Strategic Elements that guide the entire organization towards becoming one of the ten world leaders in the petrochemical sector, recognized as a reference in Safety, Health and the Environment, creating value for Shareholders, Clients, Suppliers, Associates and Society.
An example of this priority is in the fact that Braskem was the first Brazilian company to sign the United Nations Program for the Environment’s International Declaration of Cleaner Production. The signing institutions commit to implement increasingly better production policies from an environmental perspective, contributing towards the development of actions for the application of clean technologies in industry. Besides that, since 1992, the company has been a signatory of the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association’s (Abiquim) Responsible Action Program.
With regard to Quality Management, all of Braskem’s industrial units are certified Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI) in ISO 9001. It also has IS0 14001 certification in Environmental Management.
The Braskem indicators linked to Health, Safety and the Environment - SSMA demonstrate superior performance over its peers in the Brazilian petrochemical industry and they have grown every year.
Since it intends to become an international reference in management in these areas, the company maintains a training program for member and partners with the objective of aligning and disseminated best practices in SSMA.
Aimed at driving its supplier chain and maintaining long-lasting relationships, in May 2006, Braskem created the Braskem + Partners program, which seeks to encourage commitment with the Excellence of Partners through structuring and practicing world renowned and exemplary concepts. The program seeks to not only help partner companies to structure and make their businesses more competitive, but also to increase improvements and quality of services provided through contracts signed between them and Braskem.
The company thus seeks the cooperation of partners to meet client, community and society expectations in general.
Initiatives that bring innovation and improvements along these lines are always being adopted by the company, like the Program for Safety in Transportation. Created in May 2005. One of the program’s objectives is to guarantee the quality of life and safety of the drivers of the fleet of transportation firms that are the company’s partners through actions that will improve work conditions.
