The Center concentrates R$ 330 million in assets, 170 highly specialized researchers and technicians, 11 laboratories and seven pilot-plants for the development, improvement and testing of new products and applications, in three thousand square meters of built area in Triunfo (RS).

Partnerships with universities and other research institutions, in Brasil and abroad, help to accelerate new developments. The Luteran University of Brasil (Ulbra) is one of these institutions and it contributed for the construction of Braskem catalyses laboratory in Canoas, Porto Alegre.

In the Technology Center, Braskem also offers courses, training and technical support to its customers that need new applications in thermoplastic resins. The company keeps partnerships not only with the third generation - the plastic transformers - but also with producers of equipments in order to reach a better performance in the processes and products. Therefore, the company stimulates new businesses, adding value to the productive chain of plastic.

In the Granulation Laboratory, addictives are incorporated to the samples produced by the pilot-plants and testes for transformation are conducted. The lab also generates samples in scales to be evaluated by customers.
 
In the Laboratory of Physical Tests, for instance, the mechanical properties of products are evaluated, simulating their performance in final use conditions and the situations that they will be through in their useful life.

The Laboratory of Characterization is used for identifying the chemical composition of the samples sent by the customers, characterizing the addictives present in the products and conducting microscopic analysis.  The Laboratory of Fractioning identifies structural characteristics of the products.

The Laboratory of Humid Via helps in the evaluations of the products properties in solution, besides it prepares these products for several other tests, like chromatography and delaminating process.

In the Laboratory of Tubes, the Center gathers information to support the pipe lines systems and to promote the accelerate aging of water and gas tubes in order to evaluate and guarantee the performance in a period of 50 years of use. This lab also simulates the maintenance processes for the installed lines.

The Laboratory of Rheology evaluates the properties of the product in melt state and predicts the performance in transforming machines.

The Laboratory of Processing has transformer machines similar to the ones found in the customers" sites with capacity to process 800 tons/month of resins. In this lab, samples of finished products are generated for evaluation together with new formulas for testing their performance.

The Laboratory of Catalysis is equipped with modern machines and technology and it conducts evaluations of the development of catalyzers for resins like polyethylene and PET. The Laboratory of Catalyzer Characterization has similar responsibilities and it also evaluates the physic-chemical composition of catalyzers and catalytic supports. The Laboratory of Polymerization evaluates the performance of catalyzers developed internally and from other suppliers. Furthermore, this lab test raw materials used in the polymerization process.
