Inaugurated in 2006, it is focused on researches with UTEC, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(engineering plastic). Braskem is the only producer of the resin in the Country and one of the largest producers in the world.


Laboratory of Processing - has equipment similar to the ones found in the customers’ facilities, allowing the tests of the performance of products, simulating true to life situations.

Laboratory of Physics Tests and Characterization - simulates the performance of products in final use situations, conducts mechanical evaluations in real situations, identifies the chemical components of samples and characterizes the addictives in the products.

Laboratory of GPC - Identifies the chemical composition of samples and of addictives in the products.
 
Hot Room - reserved for equipments that use the heat such as ovens and other heating equipments.

Laboratory of OCS - has modern equipments with optical systems able to find imperfections in polyethylene films and contaminators in pellets.

Laboratory of Humid Via - conducts tests to determine the presence of metals in resins and the resistance to cracking.


Laboratory of Polymerization - promotes studies and the development of catalyzers used in the pilot-plant and in the industrial unit.


All this effort ends up in real results: more than 10% of the resin volume commercialized by the Polyolefins Unit, for instance, refers to products launched in the market not more than two years ago. Among the successful launchings, the UMWPE resin (Ultra Molecular Weight Polyethylene), of which Braskem is the second biggest producer in the world, and the resins Braskem Flexus, Symbios and Idealis.

Besides, several processes licensed by third parties were adapted in the laboratories of Braskem. This way, the company creates new technologies that figure among the best processes of polyethylene and polypropylene production in the world.
