Braskem is controlled by the Odebrecht Group, which has direct and indirect participations in the company and shareholder control of Norquisa, a holding that is also part of Braskem"s controlling group. Other company shareholders include Petroquisa (Petrobrás petrochemical division) and the Petros (Petrobras) and Previ (Bank of Brasil) pension funds. Its shares are negotiated on the São Paulo (Bovespa), New York and Madrid Stock Exchanges.
With 19 factories located in Alagoas, Bahia, São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul, the company produces basic petrochemicals such as ethane, propane, benzene, caprolactam and DMT, as well as gasoline and GLP (kitchen gas). In the thermoplastic resin segment, in which it is the leader in Latin America, the company produces polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC and PET.
