Plastic is a totally recyclable material and it can be used in several ways. There are three kinds of plastic recycling: the chemical, the mechanical and the energetic. Brazil figures among the three main countries regarding the volume of plastic reprocessed by mechanic recycling.
- In the mechanical recycling, the used plastic is transformed in grains to be reutilized in the production of other items: packaging for many products but food, fibers, automotive components, trash bags, cables etc.
- With the chemical recycling it is possible to obtain the raw material that will be used in the production of new plastics, with the same quality of an original raw material.
- The energetic recycling utilizes the used and disposed plastics as fuel to produce electrical energy. This kind of recycling is very common in Europe, Japan and United States, places where there is a high technology for this process and where the controls of remains emission are rigid.
