The social programs developed by the company focus on environmental education, social inclusion and cultural promotion, and they aim at preserving the environment and improving life quality. Braskem developed many programs like Lagoa Viva (Alive Lake), Cinturão Verde (Green Belt), Núcleos de Defesa Comunitária (Communitary Defense Centers), Arte com Plastico (Art with Plastic), o Centro de Educação Ambiental Vila Pinto (Center of Environmental Education Vila Pinto) and the projects of culture incentive such as; the Prêmio Braskem de Cultura e Arte (Braskem Award of Culture and Art), o Prêmio Braskem de Teatro (Braskem Award of Theater) , o Prêmio Octávio Brandão de Jornalismo Ambiental (Octavio Brandão Award of Environmental Journalism).
These projects aim at creating opportunities, recognizing new talents and valorizing the traditional culture of communities. In order to develop new markets, the company also keeps a straight relationship with the scientific community. The company stimulates the development of researches through partnerships with universities and the creation of awards like the ABEQ Award in the area of chemistry and petrochemical and the Award Opera Prima for undergraduates in architecture.
