Art with Plastic This program seeks to develop environmental awareness in schools in a fun manner, teaching children and adolescents how to transform plastic scrap into toys or decorative objects. The seminars and recycling workshops attend to educators and students who receive selective garbage collection kits and plastic scrap. The program is held in several cities and already has 52 participants, 20 thousand students and 700 educators. Art with Plastic was created in 1996, in partnership with Braskem customers and the municipal governments of coastal cities benefited by the program. Due to the tremendous acceptance, it was take to the schools in 1998, aimed at preparing teachers, coordinators and directors to use recycling as a pedagogical instrument. The project focuses on the children due to their capacity to take learning experiences into their homes, thus serving as vectors to introduce new environmental habits and tear down old behavior paradigms held by their parents. At the recycling workshops, children from the first to fourth grades receive their first lessons about reusing garbage and selective garbage collection activities in the school environment. In 2004, the program won the Fieb Environmental Performance Award from the State of Bahia Federation of Industries for being the best initiative in the "environmental education" category. The award represented the confirmation of a victorious journey begun in 1999 when the program was considered the best environmental education project in the country by the National Confederation of Industries. It was also chosen Top in Ecology and Marketing by the ADVB (Brazilian Sales Directors Association).
