The list of nominees for the Braskem Theater Award has just been released. The award ceremony will be held on April 11, at 9PM, on the stage of the Castro Alves Theater in Salvador, for the greatest highlights of Bahian theater last year. The trophy and award ceremony will gather the artistic class, guests and the nominees for ten categories: adult play, children’s play, director, actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, author, revelation and special category. The public can also choose their favorites in the adult play and children’s play categories. The winners will only be known on the night of the awards.

For this edition, the judging commission, comprised of Cláudio Cajaíba, Sergio Guedes, Renato Silveira, Makarios Maia Barbosa, Selma Santos, Doris Pinheiro and Marilda Santana, evaluated 43 plays, 37 adult and 6 children’s. The award, which totals R$ 140 thousand, will be divided as follows: the winners of the adult and children’s play categories receive a trophy and R$ 30 thousand, each, and another R$ 20 should the play remain open or reopen as support for promotion. The other categories will receive a cash award of R$ 5 thousand.

The Braskem Theater Award has grown every year, stimulating theater production in Bahia. In 2005, 50 plays competed, whereas in 2004, there were 48 candidates. The Award was created in 1993 with the objective of recognizing, valuing and awarding theater production in the state, making room for the emergence of new talents. Since then, nearly 550 plays have competed for the award.
