Braskem deactivates DMT production unit in Camaçari

The factory for DMT, a raw material for PET resin, does not have scale of production, modern technology and appropriate costs to compete globally

Braskem is committed to the development and competitiveness of the plastic and petrochemical production chain in Brazil and has been consistently investing in increasing production capacity and modernizing all of its industrial units to create value for its shareholders, employees and customers.

Based on essential criteria for worldwide petrochemical competitiveness - global scale of production, up-to-date technology and competitive costs - Braskem has decided to deactivate its DMT production unit in Bahia and temporarily suspend the production of PET resin, both installed in the Camaçari Petrochemical Complex. Braskem will study the eventual resumption of PET production from a new technological route that guarantees competitive costs for the polyester chain in Brazil.

These two industrial units have 128 employees, 86 of which already have their reallocation ensured at Braskem, 18 of which are in their retirement process and 24 of which are in the process of in-house reallocation or reallocation to Braskem suppliers.

Braskem continues to ensure the supply of PET resin to all its customers through a contract signed with M&G Polímeros Brasil S/A, one of the main producers of this resin in Brazil and the world. Braskem maintains its current commercial policy for this product, including any necessary technical assistance, in order to ensure service excellence to all our customers.
