BRASKEM ALTERNATION HALF MARATHON is scheduled for next September 21. The race, organized by Yescom - Entertainment Sports Communication and generally managed by Bahia Athletics Federal (FBA), has already proved itself as one of the largest sports events in Brazil and also one of the best organized. Created in 2004 as an internal activity for members of Braskem - a leading petrochemical company in Latin American - this half marathon became one of the most important events in the international street race calendar; since its second issue, it gests together in the city of Salvador company employees and amateur and professional athletes from all over the country. The event aims at fostering health, sports and the practice of physical activities, as well as the appearance of new talents in the field of athletics.
For this year, three thousand five hundred participants are expected to compete for trophies and medals, besides over R$ 60 thousand in prizes. This issue news is that enrollment shall be made solely using the Internet, at the website
www.meiamaratonabraskem.com.br. Candidates may enroll from July 28 to September 10. By this measure organizers intend to facilitate enrollment process for competitors. Individual fee will be R$ 30 until August 20; then, it shall move to R$ 40. Teams made by duos or quartets may take part in the race in the male, female or mixed categories. Start will be at Farol da Barra, one of the most famous sightseeing sports in Salvador. All 21 kilometers 97 and a half meters of the Half Marathon track are along the seaboard between Barra and Ondina neighborhoods.
The event will comply with official rules from Bahia Athletics Federal (FBA), Brazilian Athletics Federation and International Athletics Federation, and its track has been checked and approved by AIMS - International Street Marathon and Race International Association. In order to ensure grater precision for results, a system of electronic counting using tracking chips shall be adopted. The whole race course shall be covered by ambulances and support cars, besides being protected by grids and street cones.
