Braskem president, Bernardo Gradin formalized an invitation to RS Governor Yeda Crusius for laying the foundation stone for Braskem’s Green PE Project on April 22.

In a meeting with the Governor, Gradin confirmed Braskem’s investments in RS and informed Yeda Crusius the status of works on the green ethylene plant in the Triunfo Petrochemical Center.

At present, the company is setting up the job site, probing the land and installing utilities - infrastructure involving water, sewage and electric power. That same month civil construction will begin, starting with staking and building foundations. The job will generate 1500 jobs and should be concluded by the end of 2010. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in 2011.

With an investment of R$ 500 million, the green polyethylene project will have production capacity for 200 thousand tons per year.

It will be the first commercial scale operation in the world for producing green polyethylene from 100% renewable raw material.
