With cross-sectional sustainability as part of its business, Braskem, the largest producer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, works alongside the production chain to reduce the environmental impacts of suppliers' activities. The proactive approach in search of solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions has given the petrochemical company another recognition, this time at the CDP Supply Chain.

Braskem has been able to involve in the initiative suppliers that represent 44% of its indirect emissions. The company is one of 29 worldwide, from a universe of more than 3,300 evaluated companies, to be included in the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Program) rankings of the companies that best engage their suppliers. CDP provides the world's largest and most comprehensive environmental dissemination system for companies and cities.

"This is a true demonstration of how working alongside the chain is essential for acting to combat climate change. By engaging our suppliers, we wish to show that, regardless of the industry or company size, it is possible to improve processes and practices in search of a more sustainable management," said Gustavo Prisco, Supply Director at Braskem.

Braskem's work begins by raising awareness and training of critical suppliers in the chain and by identifying opportunities to reduce emissions and improve the management of water resources. Every year, the selected suppliers receive a questionnaire about their strategy in relation to environmental practices. In addition, the form helps companies identify potential risks from operations.

The A List
This is not the first time that Braskem is acknowledged by CDP. In November, it obtained an unprecedented achievement for the Brazilian industry, with a positive outcome in the fight against climate change, by integrating CDP's "A List," which selects the world's top publicly traded companies in relation to the management of greenhouse gas emissions.
