Braskem launches new resins bearing Maxio® seal

The seal identifies eco-efficient resins that confer productivity gains, energy savings and weight reductions

During K Fair, Braskem, the largest thermoplastic resin producer in the Americas, will reinforce its commitment to offering competitive and sustainable solutions by showcasing two new resins certified by the Maxio® line: FT 120WV and PG 480. The Maxio® seal was created to identify the eco-efficient resins in the company's portfolio that reduce energy consumption, boost productivity in manufacturing processes or reduce final product weight, which assures clients efficiency gains and consequently environmental gains.

The resin FT1 20WV, which was developed for caps/closures and technical parts, offers as a competitive advantage the opportunity to extract higher productivity from injection processes. For example, tests conducted at clients indicated a 7.5% shorter production cycle and a 3.5% drop in the loss rate. Meanwhile, Maxio® PG 480 captured a productivity gain of 15% in raffia packaging applications while maintaining the same mechanical properties and reducing variations in thickness.

"The Maxio® line's eco-efficiency supports a progressive reduction in production costs and environmental impacts, which contributes to improving people's lives and preserving the environment. Our clients also benefit from the capture of production and efficiency gains in processes," said Walmir Soller, director of Braskem's polypropylene business.

In 2015, total sales of resins bearing the Maxio® seal amounted to 110 kton, distributed among the ten items comprising the line's portfolio. Some of the main applications are for housewares, rigid packaging, caps and closures, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

Maxio® Line

In addition to meeting one of Braskem's key growth pillars, which is innovation, the Maxio® seal was created to identify the most eco-efficient resins in its portfolio. These resins enable clients to reduce energy consumption, boost productivity in production processes or reduce final product weight. These benefits come thanks to the constant evolution in Braskem's resins to maintain or enhance the mechanical, chemical and optical properties of the finished products. The line is yet another example that confirms Braskem's purpose of improving people's lives through sustainable solutions in chemistry and plastics.
