Clarification about publication of the newspaper Tribuna Independente

Maceió, July 22, 2019 - Braskem was surprised by the interview with civil engineer Abel Galindo published by the newspaper "Tribuna Independente". Despite of not being contacted to emit its opinion, as it should be expected in the journalism good practices, Braskem is forced to bring clarification regarding the arguments presented in the interview, which have no scientific basis.

The first of the allegations is that "33 mines collapsed", which is denied by the sonars performed by the French company Flodim, one of the most prestigious in the world. So far, 15 sonars are concluded and they do not demonstrate collapse of the mines as stated by the engineer. The entire execution of sonar studies is monitored by the National Mining Agency (ANM). IMA and CPRM receive all the communications and data from the sonars and they are always invited to attend the operations. The inference proclaimed by  engineer Galindo that "there was an emptiness" by the occasion of the alleged series of collapses and that "it became a hole" is so unlikely that it is on the edge of irresponsibility .

Braskem has a relationship of more than 40 years with the society of Alagoas and its main commitment is towards the safety of people. Right now, the company is dedicated to complete the studies that will contribute to the clarification of the causes of the phenomena that affected the districts of Pinheiro, Bebedouro and Mutange. Only after the scientific clarification of the causes will we be able to outline the solutions to bring people back to their houses.
