Pioneers in Sustainable Sport Surfaces

Polytan, a global leader in synthetic sport surfaces, has been at the forefront of sustainability within the industry for decades.

A key subsidiary of SportGroup Holding, Polytan specializes in the development and manufacturing of high-performance synthetic turf and other sport flooring solutions. Their focus on environmental responsibility and reducing carbon footprint has driven the use of renewable materials and technologies in their product research and development.

The Carbon Zero Turf at Paris 2024*

One of Polytan’s groundbreaking projects is the Poligras Paris GT Zero , the world’s first carbon zero synthetic hockey turf. This sustainable turf was featured at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, setting a new standard in the world of sports.

By eliminating microplastic infill and using fully recyclable bio-based materials, Polytan has created a surface that reduces carbon emissions, whilst ensuring top-tier performance for athletes. Additionally, the production of Poligras Paris GT Zero runs on renewable energy, further improving the products sustainability performance.

How I’m green™ bio-based enables Polytan in their Sustainability journey

This remarkable achievement was made possible through the partnership with Braskem’s I’m green™ bio-based polyethylene (PE). The PE is derived from sugarcane, which captures carbon during its growth and stores it in the final material, resulting in the turf’s low carbon credentials.

By choosing I’m green™ bio-based, Polytan are not only reducing carbon emissions from cradle-to-gate, but also paving the way forward for a circular economy within the synthetic turf industry -proving that high-performance sport surfaces can also be environmentally responsible.

“Polytan has demonstrated the value of Braskem’s I’m green™ bio-based PE in helping clients reduce their dependency on fossil feedstocks. Their innovative turf solution is made from responsibly sourced materials, reduces carbon footprint, and can be fully recycled after a long successful lifespan – all without compromising quality”
