Chemical Week

We won the first edition of the Sustainability Award of Chemical Week’s Financial Outlook & Sustainability Forum, a North American publication, in the Best Sustainable Initiative category with our circular economy product portfolio, I’m green™.

ECLAC of the UN

Our production of I’m green™ bio-based polyethylene, a plastic of renewable origin made from sugarcane, was recognized by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Global Compact Network Brazil as one of the most transformative innovations in sustainable development in Brazil, in the Industry & Energy category.

Corporate governance trade action index

We are part of the IGCT (Governance Corporate Trade Index) portfolio, which recognizes issuing companies with differentiated corporate governance practices, with additional criteria to the IGC (Differentiated Corporate Governance Stock Index).

Carbon efficient index (ICO2)

Since 2011, we have been part of the B3 Carbon Efficient Index portfolio, which demonstrates commitment by companies to transparency in their emissions.

CDP Global Sustainability Program

A leading company in three 2020 rankings: Water Management, Climate Change and Supplier Engagement (Climate and Water). For the fourth time in a row we achieved ranking in the Water Management "A List" for the sixth time in a row we were leaders in Climate Change Management. For the fifth time in a row we were also listed in the Supplier Engagement (Climate and Water) leadership ranking, in 2020 with the "A List" grade.

S&P/B3 ESG index

Since 2011, we have been part of the B3 Carbon Efficient Index portfolio, which demonstrates commitment by companies to transparency in their emissions.


In 2021, we partnered with Ecovadis, one of the world’s largest global supply chain sustainability rating companies, to evaluate the environmental, social and governance management of the supplier base. We completed the pilot assessment of 108 suppliers deemed critical from an operational, environmental and social perspective.

Diversity Exame guide

We have been recognized in 2020, for the second time in a row, as the best company in the Chemical and Petrochemical sector in practices for promoting diversity. We obtained above-average scores on all assessed items, including gender, people with disabilities, ethnic-racial and LGBTI+. The award is one of the results of our Diversity & Inclusion Program, which aims to promote a work environment free from discrimination.

Sustainability Yearbook

In 2020, we were selected for the 7th consecutive time for the Sustainability Yearbook of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, in recognition of the environmental sustainability policies implemented by the company. The ranking is regarded as a reference for investors.

LCA Network

We were one of the founders and are members of the LCA Network, which aims to mobilize companies, encourage and promote use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as a tool in order to determine the sustainability of products.

Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index

For the third year in a row, Braskem has been chosen to be part of the index, which evaluates companies for their promotion of female leadership and talent, gender pay equality, and an inclusive culture. The indicator evaluates and highlights successful companies that are taking action to promote these aspects.

Elected as one of the best companies to work for in the world.

Pro-Gender and Race Equity

Braskem is recognized for gender equality at work in the 6th edition of the Gender and Race Pro-Equity program, awarded by the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights (MMFDH), UN Women and the International Labor Organization (ILO)

External recognition

Braskem Idesa was recognized by Amitai and Fortune's Magazine in the Most Ethical Companies 2020 category, in Mexico. We also recognized two Compliance professionals (CCO and Compliance Leader for South America) with the Compliance on Top award, given to the most admired executives in the sector in Brazil.

Recovery of investment grade

In 2021, the risk rating agencies S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings will raise Braskem's rating on a global scale for BBB-, with a stable perspective, or that it becomes a major investment company. The increase better reflects two indicators of profitability and cash flow, the commitment to the growth and the expectation that the company will continue to benefit from two better petrochemical spreads in the short term.

Partnerships and associations

Brazilian business council for sustainable development (CEBDS)

We were one of 37 companies that signed a manifesto registered with the President of the Republic to demonstrate concern for the country’s environmental policy, in particular for deforestation in the Amazon.

Ethos institute

We are part of the Climate Forum, which provides incentives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing energy efficiency.  Further, we are not only part of the group of companies associated with the Ethos Institute since 2016, we are also a reference in their annual index of Integrity, Prevention and Combating Corruption.

Alliance to End Plastic Waste

We are part of a group of 57 major companies to join efforts to prevent the incorrect disposal of plastic waste in the environment.

ICCA & Responsible Care

We are partners in the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) Responsible Care program to ensure environmental and economic sustainability in our processes. In Brazil, the Responsible Care program is promoted by ABIQUIM - the Brazilian Association of Chemical Industries. Braskem has been a signatory of the Responsible Care® Program since it was founded in 2002.

Global un pact

We implement the 10 Principles of the Global Compact, relating to human rights, labor rights, environmental protection, and anti-corruption.

Carbon Pricing Coallition

We are part of this World Bank initiative aimed at assisting in carbon pricing to redirect investment accordingly and manage investment risks and opportunities.

CEO Water Mandate

Platform of the UN Global Compact that brings together a community made up of more than 150 companies from all over the world committed to the advancement of water management.
