Braskem brings climbing wall to Virada Sustentável
The attraction at the Ibirapuera Park will bring information to the public on the challenges of climate change

São Paulo, August 16, 2016 - Braskem, the largest manufacturer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, is the official host of the sixth edition of the Virada Sustainable, to be held in São Paulo, on August 25-28. On August 27- 28, the Company presented a challenging and fun attraction that invited the audience to reflect on climate change: the Braskem climbing wall, with the slogan #escalenoclima. The initiative aims to expand information on sustainability based on a positive approach to the population, using a different activity as an awareness tool.
Braskem's attraction was installed at the Ibirapuera Park next to the auditorium, delivering a fun challenge for children and adults. By "climbing the wall," visitors could learn about the importance of lightness and recycling plastic to reduce CO2 emissions. Three climbing walls, 8 meters high and 5 meters wide, were featured. The activity was available to the public from 10 am to 5:30 pm.
"Braskem is committed to acting according to the principles of sustainable development. We support Virada Sustentável with the belief that the combination of entertainment and education is a means to get people to reflect on their consumption actions and choices in a conscious manner. The ultimate goal is to encourage society to achieve smaller levels emissions of the gases that are causing climate change," said Jorge Soto, Sustainability Director of the Company.
From 2008 to 2015, Braskem reduced by 8% its absolute GHG emissions and 16% its carbon intensity, considering its direct emissions and those relating to the purchase of energy. With the corporate commitment to a low-carbon economy in Brazil and worldwide, the company has applied continual efforts for diversification of renewable raw materials aiming at the progressive reduction of emission levels. In this regard, it is the leading producer of biopolymers - Green Plastic - made from sugarcane, and has progressively increased the consumption of natural gas, a less intensive fuel in terms of GHG emissions, compared to crude oil distillate.
Another action in this area is adherence to initiatives aimed at the low-carbon economy, such as signing of the Open Letter of the Climate Forum, coordinated by the Ethos Institute, and participation in the CPLC (Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition) of the World Bank. In addition, the company has also been part of the Carbon Efficient Index portfolio (ICO2) of BM&FBovespa since 2011 and part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Emerging Markets Index, the New York Stock Exchange's sustainability index of emerging countries, since 2012.
