Braskem's Green Plastic is used by Asahi Soft Drinks in Japan
The soft drink maker adopts the Brazilian technology that uses sugarcane to produce resin

São Paulo, May 30, 2016 - The company Asahi Soft Drinks, one of the leading soft drink manufacturers in Japan, has begun to use the Green Polyethylene made by Braskem, the largest petrochemical company in the Americas. The resin produced by the Brazilian company from sugarcane will be used on the 1.5-liter bottle caps of Mitsuya Cider. The new adoption is the result of the partnership with Toyota Tsusho Corp, which plays a key role in the distribution and expansion of Green Plastic in Asia and Oceania.
With the decision to adopt the I'm GreenT Green Plastic on the packaging of its products and other renewable solutions, Asahi reinforces its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its activities and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by approximately 23% compared with the bottles currently used.
With the same characteristics of fossil polyethylene, the Green Plastic's main differentiator is the capture of greenhouse gases in its production. "The conquest of a new customer is a further demonstration of the growing concern of companies from around the world to sustainability," said Alexandre Elias, Renewables Director of Braskem.
