Braskem's Green Plastic now part of Guarany equipment

The resin, which uses sugarcane as a raw material, will be used in the products of the Katu line, which Guarany is launching to strengthen its portfolio of sustainable products.

Braskem's Green Plastic will be used in the manufacture of sprayers from Guarany , a producer of machines for the application of pesticides and agribusiness equipment. The resin, which uses sugarcane as a raw material, will be used in the products of the Katu line, which Guarany is launching to strengthen its portfolio of sustainable products.

The line, which features 5 L high-pressure sprayers, 1.2 L and 7.6 L pre-compression sprayers, and 10 L lever sprayers, in addition to the 500 ml Multisprayer and 350 ml Export models, made with the renewable resin, are already available on the market. The equipment is aimed at the gardening sector and will feature the I'm greenTM seal, identifying the products, as a differentiator.

"We have always had a commitment to sustainability as one of the main pillars of our operation. We establish measures and encourage eco-friendly conduct by all employees and in the development of products, which has granted us, among other acknowledgments, the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications in Brazil. The application of Braskem's Green Plastic in the gardening equipment line reinforces the strategy of innovation of our products and good environmental practices," said Ronaldo Callmann, New Products Manager of Guarany's Equipment division.

One of the main differentiators of Green Plastic is its contribution to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere by capturing 3.09 metric tons of carbon dioxide for each metric ton produced during its production process. Because it is 100% recyclable, the CO2 that is captured in its production remains fixed throughout the product life cycle.

Currently, more than 150 brands worldwide have already adopted Green Plastic in packaging and products for the most diverse segments, such as packaging for the food sector, personal hygiene, and durable goods. With the same properties, performance and versatility of polyethylene of fossil origin, the renewable resin can be used in the same production chains of conventional plastics and recycling.

"The proposal for the Katu line is in line with the purpose of Green Polyethylene, which addresses an increasing consumer demand for innovative and sustainable solutions. For that reason, the adoption of the biopolymer has grown worldwide, being present in more than 150 brands in Europe, the United States, Asia, Africa, and South America," highlights Gustavo Sergi, Director of Renewable Chemicals at Braskem.

Braskem has been producing polyethylene of renewable origin since 2010 at the Petrochemical Complex of Triunfo (RS). With a production capacity of 200,000 metric tons per year, it is the planet's largest industrial unit for ethylene derived from the sugarcane.

The development of Green Plastic and the incentive to its use are actions in line with Braskem's commitment to promoting sustainability in the plastic chain. In November 2018, the company defined a series of global initiatives to boost the Circular Economy , including partnering with customers in the design of new products to expand and facilitate the recycling and reuse of plastic packaging.
