Logistics chain mobilization expands support network to prevent child sexual exploitation on highways

By combining highway awareness initiatives with supplier management processes, Braskem engages its logistics chain in social responsibility efforts.

As the International Day Against Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking of Women and Children approaches on September 23, Braskem reinforces the importance of corporate engagement in protecting children and adolescents. A partner of Childhood Brasil since 2007 through the Na Mão Certa Program, an initiative that raises awareness and mobilizes companies, governments, civil society organizations, and transportation professionals to prevent and combat the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, the company develops ongoing awareness and prevention initiatives with logistics professionals, transportation companies, and other value chain stakeholders as part of an integrated social responsibility and human rights agenda.

As part of its governance practices, the company incorporates these principles directly into supplier management and relationships with business partners. Since 2024, participation in the program has been considered a scoring criterion in transportation provider contracting processes and serves as a tiebreaking factor in the company's annual logistics supplier recognition program. Currently, among the 128 transportation companies that are part of its operational chain, 44 maintain active partnerships with the program, while another 20 have participated in previous years.

According to Silvia Migueles, head of Global Logistics and Trading at Braskem, the company works collaboratively, leveraging its capacity to engage partners and suppliers around a cause that is highly relevant to society. "Logistics plays a strategic role in this agenda because it connects different links in the supply chain and enables awareness messages to reach thousands of professionals who travel daily on highways across the country. By incorporating participation in the Na Mão Certa Program into our supplier contracting and recognition processes, we encourage more companies to join this cause and strengthen this protection network."

Mobilization efforts include daily safety talks, training sessions, educational videos, integration of the topic into policies and codes of conduct, and several awareness campaigns throughout the year. In 2026 alone, these initiatives have already reached more than 11,000 people, including drivers, employees, contractors, customers, and suppliers. The strategy prioritizes prevention and the dissemination of information about the role each individual can play in identifying and reporting cases through official channels, such as Dial 100, the Federal Highway Police hotline (191), the Military Police hotline (190), the Human Rights Brazil app WhatsApp channel, and the SaferNet platform for reporting online violations.

To ensure transparency in its practices, Braskem develops an annual action plan with Childhood Brasil and monitors and reports 45 indicators through the organization's platform. Compliance with these initiatives contributes to the annual recognition the company receives from its partner organization.

For Roberta Manzini, Head of Sustainable Development at Braskem, protecting children and adolescents requires ongoing commitment and coordinated action among companies, civil society, and public authorities. "We believe that combating the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents depends on awareness, education, and the strengthening of prevention networks. Our partnership with Childhood Brasil, built over nearly two decades, reflects this long-term commitment and demonstrates how integrating sustainability into operations and the value chain can generate positive impacts for society."
