Arrival of the Beautiful Future Vessel in Brazil Strengthens Braskem Trading & Shipping's Logistics Strategy
BT&S's first next-generation naphtha vessel begins operations in the country, contributing to greater efficiency in maritime transportation and the supply of the company's industrial operations.

On August 12, Braskem marked the arrival of the Beautiful Future vessel at the Port of Aratu (Bahia), officially launching operations in Brazil of the first next-generation naphtha vessel operated by Braskem Trading & Shipping (BT&S). The Beautiful Future is also the first LR1 (Long Range 1) vessel delivered to the company in 2026, a category designed to transport large volumes of crude oil and petroleum products on long-haul routes. The vessel now becomes part of the company's supply logistics network, reinforcing the efficiency of maritime transportation for the primary feedstock used in its industrial operations and contributing to the modernization of its logistics assets.
Designed to operate on the route between the U.S. Gulf Coast (USGC) and Brazil, the Beautiful Future has the capacity to transport up to 89,500 cubic meters of naphtha per voyage. Classified as an IMO Type 3 vessel, it was developed to meet the highest international standards for safety, reliability, and operational performance in the transportation of chemicals and petroleum products.
To illustrate its size, the Beautiful Future is longer than two soccer fields placed end to end and as wide as a six-lane highway. Its cargo capacity is equivalent to approximately 35 Olympic-size swimming pools.
"The start of operations of the Beautiful Future represents an important milestone for Braskem Trading & Shipping. The vessel incorporates technologies that help make our logistics operations even more efficient, safe, and reliable, strengthening the maritime transportation that supports the supply of the company's industrial operations," said Hardi Schuck, project leader.
Among the vessel's key features are an engine prepared to operate with biofuels, ultra-low-friction hull coating to reduce resistance during navigation, Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems for speed and torque control, and propulsion technologies such as the Pre-Swirl Duct and Twisted Rudder, which improve navigation efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. The vessel also features a scrubber system for the removal of sulfur oxides (SOx) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.
Together, these solutions contribute to lower pollutant emissions and approximately a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (CO²e) compared to conventional vessels operated by the company. This result is achieved primarily through greater energy efficiency and lower fuel consumption during voyages. In addition, the Beautiful Future can operate using biofuels as well as high- or low-sulfur marine fuels, in compliance with international environmental standards.
The Beautiful Future is part of Braskem Trading & Shipping's owned fleet, which already includes the ethane carriers Brilliant Future and Brave Future. In the naphtha transportation segment, the company has also incorporated the Blooming Future and plans to bring the Blissful Future and Bold Future into operation. Once complete, the fleet of four naphtha vessels will have the capacity to transport approximately 40% to 50% of Braskem's naphtha import demand, strengthening the company's logistics autonomy and increasing operational efficiency.
