Braskem to become the first chemical company in Brazil to receive the Verde Brasil Label

Socio-environmental certification program covers renewable-based solutions, such as the I'm greenT bio-based portfolio

The Selo Verde Brasil, a program by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) designed to recognize products and services that meet rigorous sustainability criteria, has taken a major step forward with the publication-by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT)-of a specific standard for renewable polymers. With this milestone, products within Braskem's I'm greenT bio-based portfolio are positioned to become the first to receive the Green Label certification, expected to be completed in the second half of the year.

"The Green Label strengthens the creation of a more predictable regulatory environment aligned with global best practices, supporting the large-scale expansion of sustainable solutions. For Braskem, which has been driving the global development and commercialization of renewable-based materials for over 15 years through its I'm green bio-based portfolio, initiatives like this enhance competitiveness and reinforce a future in which sustainable solutions play a leading role in the industry," said Walmir Soller, Executive Vice President of Braskem for the United States, Europe and Asia, and CEO of Braskem Netherlands.

Braskem's I'm greenT bio-based products are made from sugarcane and offer 100% recyclability along with measurable and traceable renewable content, while maintaining the same applications and performance as fossil-based materials. "The company is proud that renewable polyethylene is the first product to have a dedicated technical standard published. The Green Label Brazil can boost the competitiveness of Brazilian industry and deliver more sustainable solutions that generate positive societal impact," said Roberta Manzini, Head of Sustainable Development at Braskem.

Advancing sustainable development

The general guidelines published by ABNT provide the technical structure for the program, establishing the foundation for certifying sustainable products and services in Brazil. The Green Label Brazil will reinforce its role as a key instrument of sustainable industrial policy, aligning the productive sector with decarbonization, the circular economy and socio-environmental competitiveness, while also expanding opportunities in international markets and domestic public procurement.

"We see the Green Label Brazil as a decisive tool to position the country as a global benchmark in sustainable, renewable-based products, helping to accelerate the development of both domestic and international markets through a shared framework that distinguishes products with superior environmental and social performance. Braskem will have a strong presence, given its I'm greenT bio-based portfolio," added Roberta.
