Considered one of the most demanding markets in terms of durability, corrugated polyethylene pipes bring great opportunities for construction. Braskem, the largest petrochemical company in the Americas and the world leader in the production of biopolymers, has been working in this sector and improving its portfolio of resins to meet the domestic demand, producing corrugated polyethylene pipes, which are able to last up to 75 years, providing benefits such as lightness and easy transportation and installation of the material.

Focusing on airports, highways, railways, infrastructure markets, and landfills, corrugated pipes for drainage, which collect and drain the excess liquid filtered in the soil, it has contributed to a faster, well-structured completion of works, fulfilling with all required regulations.

The adoption of plastic is growing thanks to its advantages over other materials, such as the variety of diameters and pressure classes, as well as high resistance to impact and chemical agents. Therefore, Braskem sees that this expansion is reflected in the planning of companies in the processing industry, such as Tigre ADS and Kanaflex, who have invested in new plants, equipment and technology.

"Since 2010, when we established our partnership with Braskem, the plastic piping market has grown every year. In five years, we have managed to build two plants in this segment - one in Rio Claro, in the interior of São Paulo, and another in Marechal Deodoro, in the state of Alagoas. The product is so advantageous and versatile that it can be applied to commercial enterprises, supermarkets, airports, and highways," said José Cattani, General Manager of Tigre ADS.

Kanaflex, established in 1984, is a manufacturer of corrugated HDPE ducts and pipes in Brazil, having focused on raw materials as a competitive differentiator thanks to its flexibility and high resilience. "The new resins recently implemented by Braskem in the domestic market have helped us consolidate the innovations required by the civil works. Opened in 2013, the Itu unit, in São Paulo, uses polyethylene in all its lines, which highlights the large-diameter corrugated pipes," explained Eduardo Bertella, Marketing Manager of Kanaflex.
