Braskem Idesa inaugurates Petrochemical Complex in Mexico
The Brazilian Company strengthens its international expansion strategy and reinforces its position among the world's five largest producers of thermoplastic resins
Braskem, the largest petrochemical company in the Americas, inaugurates today (22) its Petrochemical Complex in Mexico, in partnership with Mexican company Idesa. With annual integrated production capacity of 1.05 million tons of ethylene and polyethylene, the Braskem Idesa Petrochemical Complex is an important step for growth in the Americas and diversification of raw material sources, underlining Braskem's international expansion strategy.
"Production in Mexico raises Braskem to a new level. With 40 plants in Brazil, the United States, Germany and now Mexico, we have broadened the reach of our operations, thereby creating synergies and complementarities, developing products and markets and serving our clients," said Fernando Musa, CEO of Braskem.
Production from the Petrochemical Complex will prioritize both clients in Mexico, providing them technical support and developing applications locally, and in the United States, Europe, Asia, as well as Central and South America.
With the additional production from Mexico, Braskem now has production capacity of 8.7 million tons of thermoplastic resins, including polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC. With this volume, Braskem reinforces its global leadership as one of the five largest producers of thermoplastic resins.
The result of a US$5.2 billion investment, the Petrochemical Complex in Mexico is considered the largest greenfield investment ever made by a Brazilian company abroad. The Complex houses an ethylene gas-based cracker and three polyethylene plants - two for linear high-density polyethylene and one for linear low-density polyethylene.
