Braskem and Engeflex develop a new masterbatch line composed of 100% Wenew post-consumer recycled resin

The new masterbatch provides the market with a new sustainable pigmentation option

Braskem, a market leader committed to strengthening and implementing the circular economy, and Engeflex, a leading Brazilian company focused on the production and development of plastic solutions, have produced a line of masterbatches composed 100% of Wenew post-consumer recycled resin (PCR). Masterbatch is a concentration of pigments or additives that can be incorporated into thermoplastic resins and used to color plastic products.

The new masterbatch is produced using DL085C recycled resin from Braskem's Wenew portfolio, produced from flexible plastic waste that is more difficult to recycle. It is designed to maintain the sustainability of packaging and plastic artifacts that already contain PCR, offering a more sustainable pigmentation option to the market.

The product can be applied in various industries, including automotive, agricultural materials, disposables, cosmetics, hygiene and cleaning, toys, civil construction, furniture, appliances, sports, and many others.

Paulos de Mattos Coelho, Braskem's Circular Economy commercial head in South America, stated, "We're proud to participate in the development of this new masterbatch, which expands the applications of post-consumer recycled resins. This partnership reinforces the fact that Braskem is a company offering quality circular solutions and is available to help customers and brand owners reach their goals for sustainability. This is how we're helping to engage all links in the production chain to move towards the circular economy."

This partnership with Engeflex reinforces Braskem's commitment to the elimination of plastic waste. The company will expand its product portfolio by 300,000 tons of products with recycled content by 2025, and, by 2030, 1 million tons of these products. Also in 2030, it will work towards preventing the disposal of 1.5 million tons of plastic waste destined for incineration, landfills or to be dumped in the environment.

"The circularity of plastic has become a recurring issue in all industries. Being a part of this significant partnership with Braskem and offering our customers a more sustainable option in terms of masterbatches is a key contributor to the transition from a linear to a circular system." added Thiago Ostorero, director of Engeflex do Brasil.
