Braskem is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Emerging Markets
For the third straight year, Braskem was selected as a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Emerging Markets, the sustainability index for companies headquartered in emerging markets of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The new composition of the index's portfolio was announced today (11). Formed by 86 companies, 17 of which from Brazil, the DJSI recognizes companies that are recognized for best practices in economic, social and environmental management and have strategies to address climate change, energy consumption, people development and corporate governance. Braskem has been a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Emerging Markets Index since 2012.
"Braskem strives constantly to improve its products and processes and works together with its client chain to develop solutions to build a more sustainable society," said Jorge Soto, Sustainable Development Director at Braskem. "The business community plays a fundamental role in establishing commitments and adopting concrete actions to strengthen social and environmental practices and purposes," he added.
The largest thermoplastic resin producer in the Americas and the world's largest biopolymer producer, Braskem is recognized by other indexes for its sustainability practices. On the Brazilian stock exchange (BM&FBovespa), the company is listed on the Level 1 special corporate governance segment and has been a component of the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) since its creation in 2005. Braskem stock is also a component of the Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2) of the BM&FBovespa. Launched in 2010, the Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2) is formed by 30 companies that have adopted transparent practices for their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The Dow Jones Sustainability was launched in 1999 as the first index to track the performance of the stocks of companies that adopt sustainability practices. In 2012, the Dow Jones Sustainability Emerging Markets Index was created, which tracks and analyzes the performance of 10% of the 800 largest companies in 23 countries, including Brazil, China, Russia, India, Mexico, South Africa and Turkey. The index serves as a benchmark for investors who want to build investment portfolios formed by companies that have adopted best practices in sustainability.
