In line with the UN 2030 sustainable development goals, Braskem has undertaken new commitments for making a better world for future generations. The company has organized these commitments into seven dimensions: health and safety, financial and economic results, elimination of plastic waste, fighting climate change, operational eco-efficiency, social responsibility and human rights, and sustainable innovation. Braskem has defined clear goals and targets for each one of them. 

"There are seven different dimensions that are interconnected and promote sustainable development as a whole. These are commitments with people and the planet. Eliminating plastic waste, expanding the I'm greenTM   portfolio, promoting inclusion, equality and diversity, and neutralizing carbon emissions by 2050 are examples of the targets we are working for", states Roberto Simões, Braskem CEO.
Braskem's target for health and safety is to eliminate occupational diseases and reduce the frequency of workplace accidents by half. To that extent, there will be actions in education, third-party management, and development of digital tools and industry 4.0 towards health, safety and environment improvement.

As regards financial results, Braskem's goal is to be among the world's best placed global companies in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, as well as in adopting global best practices focused on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance). The company executives, for instance, currently have clear personal targets linked to ESG targets.

As part of its effort in eliminating plastic waste, the company will expand its I'm greenTM   portfolio, aiming to include 300,000 tons of thermoplastic resins and chemicals with recycled content by 2025; and, by 2030, 1 million tons of such products. By 2030, it will work to prevent 1.5 million tons of plastic waste from being sent to incineration, to landfills, or deposited in the environment. 

In the fight against climate change, the target is to reduce 15% of direct greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. These targets include reducing emissions by focusing on energy efficiency and using renewable energy in current operations, as well as compensating emissions with investments in chemicals and polymers from renewable sources.
The target for operational eco-efficiency is to have more efficient water-use management, including initiatives for reuse and ensuring usage from 100% safe sources. In addition, increasing energy efficiency.

As regards social responsibility and human rights, the targets are to promote developing communities around the industrial plants, and to have more women in leadership positions and more black team members. To ensure diversity, Braskem has already implemented practices such as blind resumes for the promotion of equal opportunities and flexible criteria for hiring people, eliminating criteria that built barriers against equal opportunities. 

Finally, the sustainable innovation dimension is aimed at increasing the percentage of sustainable projects in the innovation and technology portfolio, reaching 85% by 2025 and 90% by 2030.

Braskem achieved 85% of the goals set in its first long-term improvement cycle between 2009 and 2020.
