Braskem concludes 15th sonar study

Maceió, August 1st, 2019 - Braskem concluded the fifteenth sonar study in the salt extraction wells. It is an intense work and the objective is to contribute to the elucidation of the problems occurred in the districts of Pinheiro, Bebedouro and Mutange, in Maceió. By understanding the causes, it will be possible to adopt effective safety measures to benefit the local community.

The studies are inspected by the National Mining Agency. On the last 18th, ANM professionals performed a technical visit to verify the progress of the sonars made by Braskem.

Almost 300 professionals from 13 national and international companies participate in the work. Six probes are used simultaneously, one for each cavity, in a race against time, since warped pipes hinder the access to the equipment. The conclusion of the 35 sonar studies is expected by the end of the year.

In more complex situations, the contracted companies make perforations parallel to the pipelines so that the sonar equipment can go down until the depths of 900 and 1200 meters. The procedure is in accordance with international safety standards: once the well is concluded , the drilling in the soil is closed.
