Maceió, May 16, 2019 - Braskem initiates this Thursday (16) the working plan for pavement recovery in the streets damaged by cracks in the district of Pinheiro. The plan also sets out the substitution of the rainwater drainage network in the places where the service will be performed. 

The action is provided for in the Technical Cooperation Agreement signed among the petrochemical company, the Municipality of Maceió, the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy (CREA-AL), and the Federal, State and Labor Public Prosecutor's Offices (MPF, MPE and MPT). 

The objective of the initiative by Braskem is to ensure the safety and trafficability in the roads, as well as to reduce the risk of water infiltration in the soil of the district through the cracks. The sections in the public roads and the constructive solutions for each area were defined  with the Municipality of Maceió, based on the features map elaborated by the Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM). 

The activities of the company hired by Braskem will be initiated at Alameda São Benedito, location of the residential complex Divaldo Suruagy, and  will count on the support of the Civil Defense and other municipal agencies, such as SMTT, which will control the local traffic. 

Service execution 

The  service of recovery of the roads includes the partial removal of the existing paving, which involves the pavement covering, layers of sub-basis and basis that may exist, and part of the foundation ground prepared to receive the pavement. The objective of this intervention phase is to ensure good foundation condition for the streets and avenues of the district. 

In all the cases,  the removal of soil to a depth of approximately 1.5 m, in the width of the street, is included. At the end of the excavation, there will be the compaction of the foundation layer with the use of earthmoving equipment. Subsequently, at the bottom of the ditch, will be installed a geogrid, which is a traction resistant screen that acts as reinforcement structure for soils with low bearing capacity. 

  
This geogrid will be associated to a non-woven geotextile layer with hydraulic, physical and mechanical properties. With this, the structure provides high permeability of water with excellent capacity of filtration. After the conclusion of the installation of the geogrid, the ditch will be closed and the asphaltic pavement reconstituted. Due to safety matters, the traffic of people and vehicles in the impacted streets will not be allowed during the execution of the service. 

Package of emergency measures 

The initiative of recovery of the public roads by Braskem and the other agencies adds up to the other measures that the company has been implementing in the district of Pinheiro, reinforcing the responsible operation of the company towards the society of Alagoas. So far, the company has already delivered important services to the district, such as inspection in the drainage system, installation of high-precision GPS to detect ground movements, installation of a meteorological station exclusively for anticipated measurement of rains, and inspection in the structures of critical buildings.
