Seismic study to be initiated this Saturday in the Pinheiro district
Maceió, March 1st, 2019 - On this Saturday (3/2), starting 8 a.m., a seismic study will be initiated in the district of Pinheiro and streets of nearby districts, which will last until March 12. The analysis is a requirement of the National Mining Agency (ANM) to Braskem. It will be performed by the American company Panamerican Geophysical, specialized in geophysical researches and internationally recognized. This is a necessary and important proceeding to supplement the studies aimed to identify the causes of the events in the region.
The geophysical study will have the support of the Civil Defense, the City Guard and SMTT, which will help in the partial interdiction of the streets and supervision. The National Mining Agency will monitor the activities alongside members of the Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM).
Residents must pay attention to the signaling, since some streets will be temporarily interdicted, according the schedule of activities below.
About the study
The activity is a data collection with the objective of creating a subsurface image of the studied area for identification of structures and geological layers. A well-known analogy would be the ultrasound used in medicine, which uses sound waves to generate images, but with quite different equipment and scales. To obtain the seismic data, specific equipment is used for wave generation and surface measurement. The seismograph, a measurement equipment, is formed by a set of sensors and electronic equipment spread along the study area, in a way to generate images that may have kilometric ranges.
