Our ambition is to accelerate and deliver sustainable, innovative solutions for clients and society. We believe that investing in the advancement of technology will be increasingly the central path in the search for a more sustainable future. For this reason, we view our R&D investments as a tool to prepare for the structural challenges that will enable the energy transition towards a more sustainable, circular and carbon neutral economy.
We believe that investing in the advancement of technology will be increasingly the central path in the search for a more sustainable future. For this reason, we view our R&D investments as a tool to prepare for the structural challenges that will enable the energy transition towards a more sustainable, circular and carbon neutral economy.
Our strategy is focused on fostering and prioritizing the innovation project portfolio in 4 pillars:
Deliver improvements in manufacturing efficiency and resources.
Develop and apply solutions to reduce plastic waste with recycling as key facilitators for carbon reuse.
Deliver new renewable chemicals and polymers.
Develop and implement carbon capture and utilization solutions.
We have developed and implemented a Sustainability Index for the entire portfolio of Innovation and Technology Projects (I&T), which is now part of the standard planning process and pipeline for approval of I&T projects. The Index aims to ensure the alignment of projects with sustainability, and all projects in the planning phase must answer the questionnaire. For each dimension (water, energy, chemical safety (process/product), greenhouse gas emissions, and circularity), a project can have a positive, neutral, or negative impact. In total, in 2020 80% of I&T projects are having a positive impact on the Sustainability Index.
In order to expand and encourage innovations of positive social and environmental impact, we have been promoting Braskem Labs since 2015, a program to accelerate startups in different stages of maturity, which, through solutions that use chemistry and/or plastic, seek transformation to a sustainable world. In the 2020 edition of the program, we invited companies from our supply chain to participate in the program with us, relying on Ambev, BRF, AkzoNobel and Grupo Boticário, to conduct mentorships with startups and building business opportunities with them. Despite the challenges of social distancing, the 20 startups selected for the Ignition and Scale programs went through three months of workshops, dynamics and networking at a distance to accelerate and structure their business, closing the cycle with Demo Day, where they showed the business to the business. In all, 25% of the accelerated startups became clients, suppliers or partners of Braskem and/or our co-sponsors. Our portfolio already has 74 accelerated startups, of which 32% did business with Braskem.
Learn moreThe Braskem Design Challenge is a program that for 9 years has connected professionals, students and companies in the search for innovative and more sustainable solutions for real packaging problems, through creativity and design, with the application of concepts such as Design for Environment, Life Cycle Analysis and Circular Economy.
