Braskem selected as Official Partner for UNESCO World Engineering Day 2025

Rotterdam, 5 March 2025 - Braskem (B3: BRKM3, BRKM5, and BRKM6; NYSE: BAK; LATIBEX: XBRK), a global leader in polymers and bio-based plastics production, has been chosen as an official partner for UNESCO World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2025. The initiative was launched at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 4 March 2025.

WED, jointly operated by UNESCO and the World Federation for Engineering Organizations (WFEO), spans some 100 countries and represents more than 30 million engineers. It is an International Day proclaimed by UNESCO, and one that falls on the 10-year anniversary of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The launch in Paris marks the start of a year-long initiative highlighting the achievements of engineers and engineering companies around the world, promoting engineering as a career.

Addressing the significance of WED, Jacques de Mereuil, Executive Director of the WFEO, says: "World Engineering Day 2025 is all about putting engineering in the global spotlight, showing how engineers are leading the way in the effort to meet the UN's Sustainable Development Goal targets, and inspiring the next generation to find out more about what a career in engineering has to offer."

As an official partner and global industry leader, Braskem's insights and expertise will form an integral part of the 12-month initiative, which provides a springboard for governments, UN-associated organizations, policymakers, educators, and leaders in the public and private sectors to raise awareness of the importance of engineering. The WED initiative has an estimated global reach of more than 100 million individuals, and this year's theme of "Shaping our sustainable future through engineering" focuses on the essential role that engineering has to play in achieving the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Braskem will be championing SDG 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production.

Walmir Soller, VP North America, Europe & Asia and CEO Braskem B.V., says: "We are deeply honoured that our I'm greenTM bio-based plastic solutions have been recognized by WFEO and UNESCO on World Engineering Day 2025 - a day that not only celebrates the power of engineering but also marks ten years of the Sustainable Development Goals. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to innovative, sustainable materials that drive real change. We believe that engineering and science hold the key to a circular, low-carbon future, and we are proud to be part of this global movement toward a more sustainable world."

Over the past 15 years, Braskem has significantly impacted the world through sustainability and innovation. Its I'm greenTM bio-based plastics play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions; since 2010, approximately seven million tonnes of emissions have been avoided, the same as 80 000 roundtrip flights from London to Paris on an Airbus A320. Braskem tracks its products' life cycles so that their impacts are measurable and traceable, providing transparency and trust. Braskem is committed to maintaining trust and transparency in all its processes and products.
