Adoption Fair: A Chance to Give Dogs and Cats a Responsible New Home

Pets available for adoption are already vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and dewormed. The "Focinho Responsável" Program provides clinical support during the first three months after adoption.

Maceió, February 19, 2026 - The "Focinho Responsável" Channel will hold another pet adoption fair this Friday (20). The event will take place in the supermarket parking lot in the Serraria neighborhood (more information at @focinhoresponsavel on Instagram), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The initiative aims to promote responsible adoption while connecting the community with animals waiting for a loving home.

All available pets have already been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and dewormed, and have received the necessary care before adoption. To support the transition to a new home, the Program offers free clinical assistance for the first three months after adoption, as well as free transportation of the animal to its new home.

Adopters may also choose a trial period of up to three days, allowing families and pets time to get acquainted before making a final commitment, and the animal can safely return to the Program if the adoption does not work out.

In addition to in-person fairs, the Channel continuously promotes available animals through its Instagram profile @focinhoresponsavel. Each post includes details about the pet and guidance on the adoption process.

 

Ongoing Commitment to Animal Welfare

"Focinho Responsável" is part of the Animal Support Program, a partnership between Braskem and the Equine and Integrative Health Research and Extension Group at the Federal University of Alagoas (Grupequi-Ufal). The initiative was created in 2020 to support families relocated under the Financial Compensation Program (PCF) and, for the past five years, has provided temporary shelter, veterinary care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services. It has also rescued abandoned or stray animals found in vacant areas.

Today, the Program cares for 493 animals, primarily dogs and cats. Of these, 183 are currently available for adoption: 140 cats, 42 dogs, and one horse. Since its creation, "Focinho Responsável" has held 14 adoption fairs, participated in more than 250 educational and community activities, and secured new homes for 1,061 animals.

According to Mônica Melo, administrative coordinator of the Animal Support Program, the fairs go beyond the act of adoption: "Our goal is to broaden public awareness of the diverse profiles of adoptable animals and reinforce that responsible pet ownership is a long-term commitment grounded in empathy, knowledge, and care", she explains.

She adds that scientific research shows living with animals can help reduce anxiety, stress, and symptoms of depression, while stimulating hormones associated with well-being and emotional bonding, such as oxytocin.
