Mutange Slope
The Mutange Slope, a 170,000-square-meter area, has undergone stabilization and drainage work. Former buildings in the area have been replaced with green space that not only helps stabilize the terrain but also expands the amount of green area in the city of Maceió.
For safety reasons, the Mutange Slope — together with the protective area surrounding the salt wells — was the first area to be preventively evacuated. The families who once lived there participated in the Financial Compensation and Relocation Assistance Program and had vacated their homes by April 2020.
Stabilization work in the area began in 2022, starting with the demolition of the vacated buildings. This was followed by earthmoving operations to reduce the slope gradients, as well as drainage work involving the construction of drainage stairways, channels, and piping systems.
To restore vegetation cover, hydroseeding techniques were applied using a combination of plant species selected to help stabilize and protect the soil. More than 700 native seedlings were also planted in the area, and their growth and development will continue to be monitored through 2027.
Surrounding Areas
Additional earthmoving, stabilization, channel installation, and vegetation cover work was also completed along the section of the Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU) railway line that passes through Mutange.
The project was completed following four phases carried out simultaneously.
