Bom Parto Community to Gain New Public Gathering Space
Project includes sports facilities, playground, and event area; Vila Saem will also undergo a full renovation of its community space
Maceió, October 23, 2025 - The Bom Parto community and surrounding areas are set to receive a brand-new public gathering space designed for sports, exercise, leisure, and recreation. Located in a familiar region for residents, the new area was planned through a participatory process that involved direct dialogue with the community. The approach took into account the site's history and the residents' connection to the land, resulting in a list of priorities that guided the project's design. Construction is already underway, with completion expected in the first half of 2026.
Once finished, the 5,500-square-meter space will feature a soccer field with bleachers, locker rooms, and accessible restrooms; a walking and running track; an outdoor gym; a children's playground; picnic tables and benches; and a multipurpose pavilion for community events. The project takes accessibility very seriously in its design, which includes tactile paving, ramps, and wide sidewalks to accommodate people with reduced mobility. Additional improvements include lighting, landscaped gardens, and green areas featuring native tree species such as Oiti, Aroeira, and Pata-de-Vaca, in addition to upgrading the drainage system and installing new trash bins.
Construction began at the end of September as part of the Socio-Urban Action Plan (PAS), an initiative resulting from the Socio-Environmental Agreement signed between the Federal Prosecution Service (MPF) and Braskem, with participation from the State Prosecution Service (MPE) and support from the Municipality of Maceió.
A Sense of Belonging
The land where the new community space is being built holds special meaning for local residents, including 60-year-old shop owner Maria das Dores Tavares Cesário. "I remember my son running around this old dirt field when he was about eight. I hope mothers now have a better structured place for their kids to play, and maybe more customers will stop by my shop too", said Maria.
José Carlos dos Santos, a 70-year-old retiree, hopes the project will bring back the soccer tournaments that once energized Bom Parto. "Players came from all over. We had trophies and medals, just symbolic ones, but it was great fun. I dream of new tournaments organized by locals, bringing people together again and improving life here in Bom Parto", he said.
Other Communities
Another PAS project focused on improving community gathering spaces will take place in Vila Saem, located in the Pinheiro neighborhood. Scheduled for 2026, the initiative was also developed through a participatory process, with local residents helping to identify the community's key needs and aspirations.
Plans for Vila Saem include a soccer field, multi-sport court, walking and running track, outdoor gym, children's playground, improvements to the Our Lady of Sorrows shrine (the community's patron saint), and the installation of benches, tables, trash bins, gardens, and green spaces, all complemented by accessible sidewalks, tactile paving, ramps, and modern lighting.
