Braskem Initiatives Strengthen Maceió's Educational Infrastructure
- Initiatives include the construction of CMEIs, a large-scale educational complex built to SESI standards, and the launch of the Aprender Program to support learning recovery.
Maceió, April 15, 2026 - Braskem is implementing a series of measures aimed at strengthening Maceió's public education system. The construction projects and related initiatives are part of agreements entered into with public authorities to support neighborhoods that have received families relocated from vacated areas, including Cidade Universitária and surrounding communities.
Two Municipal Early Childhood Education Centers (CMEIs) have already been delivered to the Municipality, and a third is currently under construction. A large educational complex built to SESI educational standards has also been completed and is now fully operational. All facilities meet accessibility standards and were delivered fully furnished and equipped.The projects were developed in accordance with the Ministry of Education guidelines, with contributions from specialists from the Municipality of Maceió.
A learning recovery program for children and youth has been implemented to support students from the five municipal schools previously located in the vacated areas. Additional measures are underway to provide technical updates and capacity-building within the municipal network to enhance early childhood education services. The initiatives were defined through dialogue with local communities and based on technical assessments conducted by specialized firms designated under the agreements signed with public authorities.
Early Childhood Education in Flexais
The Lucineide Gomes Flor Municipal Early Childhood Education* Center, located in Flexal, was built and equipped by Braskem. Delivered to the Municipality in March 2025, the facility serves approximately 120 children. The center features 800 square meters of built area and includes a sensory playground, solarium, classrooms and support rooms, diaper-changing and lactation rooms, rest areas, parking, administrative offices, as well as a pantry, kitchen, cafeteria, covered courtyard, locker rooms, restrooms, and laundry facilities.
CMEI Cidade Universitária
In the Cidade Universitária neighborhood, up to 600 children aged 0 to 5 years and 11 months began the 2026 school year in a new CMEI* with 3,700 square meters of built area, equipped with approximately 400 items of furniture, electronics, and various supplies. The educational unit has a capacity for up to 600 students and includes classrooms and reading rooms, a nursery, cafeteria, auditorium, shaded and protected outdoor courtyard, gardens, benches, playground equipment, sports court, mini running track, spaces for cultural activities, a beauty salon, and an educational garden area. The center also includes fully equipped medical and dental care rooms, as well as a vaccination room.
The school was delivered to the Municipality in March 2026. "The community had been waiting for this for many years. I am the second resident of the Novo Jardim Residential Complex, and from the beginning, we have fought for this," said Raimundo Medeiros, a community leader in the region.
CMEI Ponta Grossa
Construction of the Municipal Early Childhood Education Center** in Ponta Grossa is currently underway. The facility is scheduled for delivery in 2027, fully equipped and with the capacity to serve up to 600 children aged 0 to 5 years and 11 months. The project includes classrooms, a nursery, a reading room, courtyards, a cafeteria, a mini running track, a sports court, and an educational garden. The unit will also feature a vaccination room, medical and dental offices, and a space for haircuts.
SESI - Standard Educational Complex
A new educational complex*** with more than 4,200 square meters of built area, located in Cidade Universitária, was inaugurated this past Monday (13). Built to SESI educational standards, recognized for innovative methodologies and hands-on learning, the school includes 12 classrooms, science laboratories, robotics and computer maker labs, as well as spaces dedicated to arts and student interaction. The unit has a capacity for 1,080 students from 6 th to 9 th grade and also offers opportunities to form classes for Youth, Adult, and Elderly Education (EJAI).
Learning Support
The Aprender Program**** was created to enable learning recovery for students who attended the five municipal schools located in the vacated area between 2019 and 2021. Focused on reinforcing reading, writing, and mathematics skills, the program runs for 20 months. The initiative operates across seven educational hubs located in the neighborhoods of Benedito Bentes, Petrópolis, Chã da Jaqueira, Chã do Bebedouro, Serraria, Clima Bom, and Santa Lúcia. Students enrolled in the program also receive meals, transportation support, and a monthly attendance stipend.
Strengthening the Municipal Network
The Early Childhood Technical Update Project** - Trilhas da Infância - is currently underway, with initiatives aimed at strengthening intersectoral actions across the municipal network. The project has already supported a symposium to discuss public policy coordination, strengthen intersectoral initiatives, and promote knowledge exchange among technical staff and professionals from the Municipal Departments of Education, Health, and Social Assistance. Trilhas da Infância will also include Mandatory Thematic Modules, training sessions designed to deepen understanding of contemporary early childhood issues.
* The CMEI construction is part of the "Education, Sports, Leisure and Environment" pillar of the Urban Integration and Development Project for Flexais, established under the Term of Agreement signed in October 2022 by the Municipality of Maceió, the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, the Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Alagoas, the Federal Public Defender's Office, and Braskem.
** The construction of CMEIs and the Early Childhood Technical Update Project are initiatives under the Socio-Urban Action Plan, provided for in the Socio-Environmental Term of Agreement entered into by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) and Braskem, with the participation of the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE) and adherence by the Municipality of Maceió.
