Cultural Management Course Starts Two New Classes in Maceió
Offered under the Cultura em Movimento Call for Proposals, the free program is expected to train approximately 100 professionals by December
Maceió, October 20, 2026 - The Cultural Management Training Program, offered under the Cultura em Movimento Call for Proposals, has started two new classes. The free course, designed for artists, producers, technicians, and other professionals in the cultural sector, is part of the culture and memory preservation pillar of the Socio-Urban Action Plan (PAS).
Classes are held in the Farol and Flexal neighborhoods, and the program comprises a total of 30 hours of instruction divided into eight modules, and includes a certificate of completion and group mentoring. The modules cover topics such as territory, identity, and cultural heritage; the creative economy and public policies for the cultural sector; project planning; fundraising and sustainability; accountability and evaluation; intellectual property and cultural communication; legal formalization and legal management; and business models and pricing.
By the end of the year, the program is expected to train approximately 100 professionals to develop projects, strengthen cultural organizations, and expand access to public policies in the cultural sector. They will join the 31 professionals who have already completed the training in the first two classes.
Cultural producer Milla Pasan is one of the program's instructors. For her, one of its key strengths is bringing together bringing together people of different ages and backgrounds representing different forms of cultural expression. With students ranging in age from 18 to 80, she emphasizes that each participant's knowledge and experience are recognized and valued. "We have baianas, coco de roda , gastronomy, audiovisual production, literature, and cultural production. There are so many different fields in dialogue, and it is through this exchange that we come to recognize ourselves as part of the same cultural ecosystem," she explains.
Those who have already completed the course also recognize the importance of this diversity. Cultural producer and fundraiser Mariah Bueno says that these exchanges expanded her network of partners and helped her define her professional path. "Unlike other more superficial training programs I have participated in, this is an intergenerational course where I felt welcomed, represented, seen, and heard at all times," she says.
Production assistant Sofia Padilha says the Cultural Management Training Program broadened her professional perspective. "The course has prepared me professionally to work in both cultural funding and curation," she recalls.
Expectations
The two new classes began on October 14 and 17. Among the new participants is actress and cultural producer Jany Santos. "This course is a way to help people formalize their work, and I'm already looking forward to the module on financial management, because that is one of the most difficult aspects of a project and can ultimately cause it to be rejected," she says.
Multidisciplinary artist Indiara Wevilly, a member of the Wassu-Cocal Indigenous people, came to her first class focused on acquiring and sharing knowledge. "My goal is to share knowledge about fundraising in order to promote the inclusion of minorities and cultural practitioners who are unfamiliar with the creative economy, helping them apply through calls for proposals and enabling the culture of Alagoas to resonate throughout outlying neighborhoods," she says.
Multicultural master Elvis Pereira, who works with traditional dances such as coco alagoano, quadrilha junina, guerreiro, baianas, ciranda, and pastoril , sees the course as a way to add cultural value to his work. "It is an opportunity to update my knowledge of production-related aspects, with new tools and information that will complement and strengthen the way I work as I engage with new sociocultural perspectives," he adds.
Cultura em Movimento Call for Proposals
Launched in November 2025, the call for proposals selected 112 projects-60 in the Traditional Popular Culture category and 52 in the Afro-Brazilian Culture category-and prioritized cultural practitioners living in areas affected by land subsidence. The selection process evaluated the applicants' track records and length of experience, accessibility for people with disabilities; efforts to broaden access to culture-including outreach to vulnerable neighborhoods and engagement with children and young people-and alignment with cultural expressions recognized as intangible cultural heritage.
The selected projects received funding ranging from BRL 15,250 to BRL 30,800, depending on the application category. The required activities include public artistic performances and activities such as workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions, all offered free of charge to the public.
