Focinho Responsável Hosts "Viva Pet - Integrating Lives" Event

Program to be held this Saturday (25) at UFAL's Usina Ciência, featuring lectures, discussion circles, and pets available for adoption.

Maceió, April 23, 2026 - The traditional adoption fair organized by the Focinho Responsável channel is moving to a new venue and bringing an expanded program of activities. A full schedule has been prepared for the event Viva Pet - Integrating Lives , which will take place this Saturday (25), from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Usina Ciência at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), located at 152 Aristeu de Andrade Avenue, Farol neighborhood. Admission is free. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the pet world, and perhaps find a new companion.

In addition to meeting animals available for adoption, attendees can take part in a diverse program featuring guidance from specialists in veterinary medicine, animal science, and mental health. The event includes discussion circles, short courses, workshops, and educational activities throughout the day. In the afternoon, live acoustic music (voice and guitar) will round out the experience.

Pierre Barnabé Escodro, technical coordinator and professor at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), explains that the goal is to offer not only adoption opportunities but also reliable information to promote healthy relationships between pet guardians and their animals. "By raising awareness, we show that responsible adoption is not just an act of care for an abandoned dog or cat, it is also an opportunity to build bonds of affection that positively impact the adopter's life."

Program Highlights

Among the workshops offered is the short course Behavioral Management of Dogs, led by animal scientist (PhD) Sharacelly Faria, with certificates provided to participants. Discussion circles will also be held with emergency veterinary specialist Maria Luiza Melo and biologist Maja Kraguljac, who has worked for over a decade with animal-assisted services, developing practices focused on human-pet interaction, animal welfare, and health. A live musical performance completes the lineup.

In addition to educational activities, the event will feature interactive spaces, exhibition areas, and partner booths offering products for sale, along with prize drawings throughout the day. Food options will also be available for visitors. The program will include presentations highlighting technological advancements in animal health and protection, including digital tools for locating lost pets and developments in imaging diagnostics for the prevention and treatment of zoonotic diseases.

Adoption

Before adoption, all pets from Focinho Responsável undergo spaying or neutering, vaccination, and deworming, in addition to receiving veterinary follow-up care. The program also provides free transportation to the new guardian's home and clinical support during the first three months to assist with the adjustment period. Prospective adopters may opt for a trial cohabitation period of up to three days before making a final decision. If the adoption does not proceed, the animal is safely returned to the Program.

Commitment to Animal Welfare

"Focinho Responsável" is part of the Animal Support Program, a partnership between Braskem and the Equine and Integrative Health Research and Extension Group at the Federal University of Alagoas (Grupequi-Ufal). The initiative was created in 2020 to support families relocated under the Financial Compensation Program (PCF) and, for the past five years, has provided temporary shelter, veterinary care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services. It has also rescued abandoned or stray animals found in vacant areas. Today, the Program cares for 474 animals, primarily dogs and cats. Of these, 110 are currently available for adoption: 73 cats, 36 dogs, and one horse. Since its creation, "Focinho Responsável" has held 36 adoption fairs, participated in many educational and community activities, and secured new homes for more than 1,000 animals.
