PAS-supported Cultural Groups Join Maceió's Festive Calendar

  • Eight cultural groups have been restructured
  • Coco de Roda and Quadrilha Junina gave nearly 50 performances in 2024

Maceió, June 12, 2025- Cultural groups supported by the Cultural Groups Support Program, an initiative of the Socio-Urban Action Plan (PAS), are participating in Maceió's traditional 2025 celebrations. For June and July, around 50 performances of traditional popular culture are scheduled, including Coco de Roda, Quadrilha Junina, Guerreiro , and Pastoril festivities.

More than 350 people are involved in the performances by Coco de Roda groups Reviver, Los Coquitos, Pau de Arara, Estrela de Alagoas, Pisa na Fulô, and the Quadrilha Junina group Pé de Serra, which will perform throughout the city.

These groups are tied to the intangible cultural heritage traditions of the Pinheiro, Mutange, Bebedouro, Bom Parto, and Farol neighborhoods. The support program began in December 2023 with efforts to purchase goods and services such as hiring choreographers, costume designers, and musicians, acquiring costumes, musical instruments, as well as sound equipment, and providing operational support for rehearsals and transportation.

Highlights

In 2024, Program-supported groups performed around 40 times on stages across Maceió, in towns in the state's interior, and during festivities in communities near vacated areas.

Also in 2024, two traditional Christmas-season groups were revitalized: Guerreiro São Pedro Alagoano and Pastoril Estrela de Belém.

About PAS

Measures to repair, mitigate, or compensate for the impacts of displacement in the neighborhoods of Pinheiro, Mutange, Bebedouro, Bom Parto, and Farol are established under the Socio-Environmental Agreement, signed in December 2020 by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) and Braskem, with the participation of the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE) and the support of the Municipality of Maceió.

The Socio-Urban Action Plan encompasses more than 40 initiatives, ranging from the construction or renovation of daycare centers, markets, public squares, and health facilities, to broader actions in the fields of cultural, social, economic, and urban development. Some of the actions are executed by the company; others by Maceió's local government. The budget, as funded by Braskem, is BRL 198 million and is updated annually.

The plan is organized into four key areas: social policies and reduction of vulnerabilities; economic activity, work, and income; urban and environmental qualification; and preservation of culture and memory.
