Security, Cleaning, and Pest Control Services Remain Active Around Vacated Areas

Sites are monitored 24 hours a day; Over 147,000 actions carried out in five years to eliminate mosquitoes, cockroaches, scorpions, and rats

Maceió, October 9, 2025 - Maintenance activities in the vacated neighborhoods of Pinheiro, Bebedouro, Mutange, Bom Parto, Farol, and surrounding areas such as Flexais and Vila Saem remain ongoing after five years of continuous work led by Braskem. Since 2020, specialized companies have been operating daily to keep these locations clean, safe, and pest-free. The services include systematic actions for vector and pest control, as well as property security through patrols and 24/7 monitoring.

Caring for the Community

Cleaning activities involve the removal of debris from vacated properties, street and sidewalk sweeping, weed cutting, unclogging of drains and gutters, tree pruning, and curb painting from Monday to Friday. As of September, more than 98,000 tons of debris, urban waste, weeds, and tree branches have been removed from the area.

For pest control, specialized teams hired by Braskem follow technical standards and public health recommendations, with oversight from agencies such as the Sanitary Surveillance Department and the Municipal Health Secretariat. All products used are safe and approved by Anvisa (Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency). The actions follow regular prevention and control cycles and apply specific techniques for each type of pest. Professionals work with the support of modern equipment and advanced technologies.

How the Teams Operate:

Aedes aegypti Mosquito

  • During the breeding phase, a powdered insecticide is applied to areas where larvae are found, which is a technique known as dusting.
  • To reach areas that are inaccessible or not yet demolished, drones are used to spray biological insecticides that eliminate larvae without harming people, animals, or plants.
  • To combat adult mosquitoes, the most efficient and modern method is thermal fogging, known as fumacê, which spreads a fine insecticide mist across streets, squares, and hard-to-reach areas such as drains and galleries. Experts emphasize that the product is safe and advise residents to open doors and windows during the procedure. The mist quickly dissipates.

Rats, Cockroaches, and Scorpions

  • In areas with rodent, cockroach, and scorpion infestations, pest control operations include liquid insecticide spraying and placement of rodent bait in strategic locations such as drains.
  • Over the past five years, more than 147,000 thermal fogging and pest control actions have been carried out to combat the spread of mosquitoes, cockroaches, scorpions, and rats.

Reinforced Security

As part of its commitment to safety and preservation of the vacated areas, Braskem maintains a robust security structure in collaboration with public security forces in the affected neighborhoods. A 24-hour Security and Monitoring Center supports all surveillance activities, involving approximately 160 security guards.

Drones assist operations by flying over vacated zones. A system with 500 high-resolution cameras and 39 motion sensor alarms was installed on the streets and in larger buildings.

In the event of theft, trespassing, or robbery, the Military Police is immediately contacted via a dedicated radio channel connected directly to the 4 th Battalion of PM-AL.
