São Paulo, December 20, 2013 - The green plastic manufactured by Braskem is now used in the packaging for the Vert product line of the drugstore chain Panvel. The use of this raw material made from ethanol is consistent with Panvel's proposition to offer more sustainable products that also contain various active ingredients certified as organic by ECOCERT. With this initiative, Panvel becomes Brazil's first drugstore chain with an exclusive cosmetics line to use Green PE. The tube packaging is manufactured by C-Pack, Latin America's leading producer of plastic tubes for the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics and industrial sectors.

Green plastic is made from ethylene derived from sugarcane ethanol. Its main advantage is that it helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, since it sequesters carbon dioxide during its production process. It also features the same properties as traditional polyethylene, which means that manufacturers do not have to change their machinery and that it can be recycled. To help consumers recognize the green plastic, Braskem created the "I'm greenTM" seal, which guarantees the renewable origin of the packaging.
