TE Connectivity Unveils Breakthrough in Sustainable Electronics with Braskem's I'm greenTM bio-based Heat Shrink Tubing

The switch from fossil to bio-based materials illustrates the industry's response to the growing demand for sustainable solutions.

GALWAY, IRELAND, and ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS, 18 November 2025 - Braskem (B3: BRKM3, BRKM5, and BRKM6; NYSE: BAK; LATIBEX: XBRK), a global market leader in biopolymers, supplies TE Connectivity, a global manufacturer of connectivity and sensor products, with I'm greenT bio-based materials to facilitate more sustainability by limiting greenhouse gas emissions.  TE Connectivity has released an innovative whitepaper titled "Bio-Based Heat Shrink Tubing: Materials Innovation for Next-Generation Sealing and Protection of Electronic Components," documenting the incentives and background of using bio-based materials for heat shrink tubing.

The transition from fossils to bio-based materials in the use of heat shrink tubing, which insulates electrical components against environmental hazards like heat or water, among other things, happens in recognition of the rising pressures on the industry by climate change, and thus regulations and customer demands to provide lower greenhouse gas emissions.  Heat shrink tubing provides a versatile, durable, safe, and easy-to-apply method of protecting sensitive materials and is a key component in Industrial and Commercial Transportation, Automotive, and Aerospace and Defense.

Key Highlights from the Whitepaper:

  • Sustainable Materials Innovation: Introduction of TE's BIOFUSE Tubing, including Bio-Innovation CAP (BICAP) and Bio-Innovation Splice Sealing (BISS) tubing products, made from renewable, plant-based polymers.
  • Performance-Driven Design: Bio-based tubing demonstrates comparable durability, flame retardancy, and electrical insulation to conventional materials.
  • Regulatory Alignment: Products meet global standards, including UL224 and California Proposition 65 compliance.

The I'm greenT bio-based brand provides materials that are made from ethanol derived from sugarcane instead of conventional fossil fuel-based feedstock, such as naphtha from oil. This renewable raw material can be used to produce plastics and promotes a significant reduction of CO2 emissions, as the sugarcane ingests CO2 to photosynthesize, measured throughout its production chain up to Braskem's gate.

"TE's commitment to innovation and sustainability is at the heart of this development," said Mohammed Nawaz, Director of Engineering, Performance Materials at TE Connectivity. "This whitepaper not only showcases our technical advancements but also reinforces our ongoing efforts in shaping a more sustainable future for electronics manufacturing." The whitepaper is now available for download at   TE Connectivity online.

As Braskem celebrates 15 years of its I'm greenT bio-based brand, the milestone underscores the brand's pivotal role in redefining what's possible in sustainable plastics. I'm greenT bio-based has become a symbol of innovation, offering renewable solutions that help reduce carbon emissions without compromising performance. This anniversary not only honors the brand's legacy but also reinforces its continued commitment to driving the global transition toward a more sustainable economy.
