Maceió, March 19, 2025 - Braskem delivered the Flexais daycare school.
Located on Avenida Faustino da Silveira, the 800m² facility accommodates up to 120 children aged zero to six. The structure was handed over to the City of Maceió fully equipped, featuring more than 400 pieces of furniture and other essential items.
The community chose the building location during the discussion phase of the local urban project.
These materials are now available in dedicated spaces designed for students, parents, and teachers, including a sensory park, solarium, personal and educational assistance rooms, a changing room, a milk room, rest areas, and parking. The building also includes designated areas for teachers, administrative staff, and service providers, along with a pantry, kitchen, cafeteria, covered patio, changing rooms, restrooms, and laundry facilities.
Designed with accessibility in mind, the facility features ramps, tactile flooring, and adapted spaces for People with Disabilities (PWDs). The daycare school construction follows the Steel Frame method, using a treated galvanized steel structure (to prevent oxidation, for example), along with thermoacoustic walls and roofing to aid in temperature and sound control.
The executive project adheres to Ministry of Health guidelines and has been tailored to local requirements with input from experts from the Municipality of Maceió.
At the invitation of the Flexais Project, locals visited the site to see the new space firsthand. "It's great to visit the construction site and check the ongoing work, the structure, and see our children will be well taken care of," says housewife Elaine Graziele da Paz Santos, 30. "It's going to be much better now with my little boy. I was worried about him studying so far away, but that's not a concern anymore," she added.
For manicurist Andressa Nadyelly, 26, the proximity will bring more comfort. "I believe this daycare school will benefit me a lot. Because not only am I pregnant, but I also have four children, three of whom will study here, and that makes my work schedule so much easier. I'll have more time for myself and the children," she said.
The construction of the daycare school is part of the "Education, sports, leisure, and environment" axis of the Flexais Urban Integration and Development Project. The Project is the result of the Agreement signed in October 2022 by the Municipality of Maceió, the Federal Public Ministry, the Public Ministry of the State of Alagoas, the Federal Public Defender's Office, and Braskem.
Public Services, Social Spaces, and Commerce
Beyond the daycare school, the region's new Basic Health Unit (UBS) is also nearing completion. Of the 23 planned initiatives to reduce socioeconomic isolation and boost the local economy, 15 have already been implemented, with the remaining projects in progress.
The public lighting requalification, with new lamps and modernization of the network, is also underway. Other Flexais Project initiatives are the requalification of Tobias Barreto, Faustino Silveira and Praça Nossa Senhora da Conceição streets, the construction of a Shopping Mall and Fair Space, the Fishermen's Support Center, and the installation of a pier for access to Lagoa Mundaú.
Alongside ongoing construction, various measures are being implemented, including urban cleaning, pest control, surveillance, a dedicated and free bus route for Flexais residents, school transportation, and psychological support services. Security cameras have been installed, and the Flexal Space has been structured to accommodate municipal departments that provide direct services to the community.
Indemnity
Braskem has been compensating residents and traders in the region as part of its commitment to the Flexais Project. In February, the Financial Support Program (PAF) reached 99.8% of the compensation paid to families, residents and merchants. In total, BRL 49.8 million have been paid by the Company.
