Flexais crafts garnered success at a fair along the coast of Maceió

Community traders brought handmade embroidery and food products

Flexais Project supported the participation of exhibitors in the event

Embroidery, macramé pieces, hand-painted fabrics, and decorated boxes from Flexais captivated tourists and locals from Maceió who visited the Negócio da Grota fair at Praça Multieventos in Pajuçara over the weekend. Community merchants are celebrating their successful sales.

Cakes, homemade cookies, truffles, crepes, and other food products were also popular hits during the event. "It's good to leave the neighborhood a little so that new people can get in touch with our work. Here on the city's edge, a tourist hotspot, we can sell products at higher prices and earn more," says Renato Inocêncio, a seller of crepes and beverages.

The Negócio da Grota fair, organized by the Institute of Research and Urban Planning of Maceió (Iplan), gathered entrepreneurs from urban communities in the capital. The Urban Integration and Flexais Development Project supported the participation of Flexais traders, contributing to the promotion of local entrepreneurship. These economic initiatives are outlined in the Agreement signed in October 2022 by the Municipality of Maceió, the Federal Public Ministry, the Public Ministry of the State of Alagoas, the Federal Public Defender's Office, and Braskem.

"On the fair's first day, it seemed like people were looking forward to our arrival. I managed to sell all the small pieces I brought," celebrated Mayara Daniela, fillet embroiderer.

Entrepreneurship in Flexais

Promoting entrepreneurship in Flexais is part of the "Economy and Work" initiative, which includes various measures aimed at stimulating local economic development. It is one of the five topics that guide the 23 measures of the Flexais Project. The other initiatives are "Education, sport, leisure, and environment," "Health and social assistance," "Management, community service, and security," and "Mobility."

In June, the Project contributed to the holding of the first Flexal Entrepreneurs' Fair, organized by a local committee. In addition to selling products, painting and macramé workshops were held. Traders and service providers who participated in the fair celebrated the results.

To foster income generation, the Flexais Project also promotes the Aprendi no Flexal program, offering courses in partnership with Senai and Senac. Nine groups have completed the training to date, enhancing professional skills within the community.

Urban Integration and Development of Flexais Project

In addition to supporting entrepreneurship and income generation, the Flexais Project began construction work on the new Basic Health Unit (UBS), a daycare school and road rehabilitation of streets and squares in the region. The construction of a Shopping Mall and Fair Space, a Fishermen's Support Center, and a pier for access to Lagoa Mundaú are also planned.

Alongside ongoing construction, other measures include urban cleaning, pest control, surveillance, a dedicated and free bus route for Flexais residents, school transportation, and psychological support services. The installation of security cameras, upgrading of public lighting with new lamps, and modernization of the network have also been completed. The Flexal Space, which accommodates municipal departments providing direct services to the community, has been structured as part of the project.

Indemnity

Braskem has been compensating residents and traders in the region as part of its commitment to the Flexais Project. The program provides for 1,803 financial proposals and is supported by 99.6% of area residents. By June, 1,795 proposals were presented, 1,784 of which have been paid. In total, the Company has paid BRL 48.2 million.

Commitments to Maceió

As reaffirmed by Braskem, the Flexais Project initiatives are among the 10 commitments with Maceió, with many in an advanced stage of implementation or already completed. These commitments span social, urban, and environmental fronts and form part of the five principal agreements signed between Braskem and authorities in recent years. Most of these agreements were established following consultations with public authorities, society, and affected communities.

Braskem created the Compromissos com Maceió (Commitments with Maceió) platform to ensure transparency and enable the community to track all these initiatives and programs. Learn more about our commitments at www.braskem.com/compromissosmaceio , where the content is constantly updated.
