Maceió, State of Alagoas, July 3, 2024- Flexais traders will join the fair at Praça Multieventos in Pajuçara between July 4th and 7th. Exhibitors will showcase the community's artistic talent by presenting handmade products at the event, including macramé pieces, hair accessories, fabric paintings, decorated boxes, homemade cakes, cookies, and truffles, among others.
The Negócio da Grota fair, organized by the Institute of Research and Urban Planning of Maceió (Iplan), aims to support entrepreneurs from urban communities in the capital. The presence of local artisans and traders is facilitated by the Urban Integration and Development of Flexais Project, contributing to the promotion of local entrepreneurship. These economic initiatives are outlined in the Agreement signed in October 2022 by the Municipality of Maceió, the Federal Public Ministry, the Public Ministry of the State of Alagoas, the Federal Public Defender's Office, and Braskem.
Entrepreneur Samantha Souza, a resident of the community, will showcase her products, including decorated cakes, sweets, and savory treats, seizing the opportunity to promote and sell her creations across the city at Praça Multieventos. "I think this is a great opportunity to expand our business and showcase our work to more people," she said.
Entrepreneurship in Flexais
Promoting entrepreneurship in Flexais is part of the "Economy and Work" initiative, which includes various measures aimed at stimulating local economic development. This is one of the five topics that guide the 23 measures of the Flexais Project. The others are: "Education, sport, leisure, and environment," "Health and social assistance," "Management, community service, and security," and "Mobility."
At the beginning of June, the Project contributed to organizing the first Flexal Entrepreneurs' Fair, managed by a local committee. In addition to selling products, painting and macramé workshops were held. The group of traders and service providers celebrated the initiative.
To encourage income generation within the community, the Flexais Project also promotes Aprendi no Flexal, which provides the local community with professional courses. Courses are designed in partnership with reference educational institutions like Senai and Senac, and nine groups have already been certified.
Urban Integration and Development of Flexais Project
In addition to supporting entrepreneurship and income generation, the Flexais Project began construction work on the new Basic Health Unit (UBS), a daycare school, and road rehabilitation of streets and squares in the region. The construction of a Shopping Mall and Fair Space, a Fishermen's Support Center, and a pier for access to Lagoa Mundaú are also planned.
Alongside ongoing construction, various measures are being implemented, including urban cleaning, pest control, surveillance, a dedicated and free bus route for Flexais residents, school transportation, and psychological support services. The installation of security cameras, upgrading of public lighting with new lamps, and modernization of the network have also been completed. The Flexal Space, which accommodates municipal departments providing direct services to the community, has been structured as part of the project.
Braskem has been compensating residents and traders in the region as part of its commitment to the Flexais Project. The program provides for a total of 1,803 financial proposals and is supported by 99.2% of area residents. Until the first half of June, 1,795 proposals were presented, 1,783 of which have been paid. In total, BRL 48.4 million have been paid by the Company.

These commitments span social, urban, and environmental fronts and form part of the five principal agreements signed between Braskem and authorities in recent years.
